In this fast moving life, the importance of a skin facial cannot be overemphasized. A facial is a system of cleaning, exfoliating and nourishing the skin to promote glow, clear and well-hydrated skin to give you a good feeling. A facial may be comprised of many steps to give you rejuvenated skin and add a beautiful sense of pleasure to your body:

Cleansing or removal of dirt from your face.

Skin analysis, where the esthetician puts eyepads over your eyes and looks at your skin through a brightly lit magnifying lamp.

Exfoliation, usually while a steam vapor is directed at your face.

Extraction of blackheads if you want it and it’s suitable for your skin type. (It can cause broken capillaries.)

Facial massage to relax you and stimulate your skin and facial muscles

A mask targeted to your skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature.)

Application of toners and protective creams

Advice on home skin care

After going through these above mentioned points, you may rejoice in your skin and feel on the top of the world!

Stress reduction - The infrared rays help in producing endorphins, a type of hormone that helps in elevating peace of mind. Thus, a simple sauna session leaves you feeling balanced in your life especially when you are pressured or when there is a lot of tension going on in your life.

Detoxification - The heat produced in a sauna stimulates the sweat glands. This causes the body to sweat and remove toxins from the body. Far Infrared Saunas are especially beneficial in this aspect as they are capable of detoxifying sodium, cholesterol, alcohol, nicotine, heavy metals and hydrocarbon residues.

Improved Immunity - an increase in body temperature induced by a Far Infrared Sauna helps the body produce more white blood cells. While blood cells protect the body from foreign viruses, and undesirable living or non-living organisms, thereby improving the immune system.

Improvement of the Cardiovascular System - A 20-minute Far Infrared Sauna session is similar to regular workouts. In other words, a sauna session increases your heart rate as well as cardiac output, thereby helping the body condition itself naturally.

Helps maintain Ideal Weight - body fats are turned into water when the body sweats. The high temperature in Saunas helps the body achieve that, and as a result of fat oxidizing into water, the body naturally loses weight.

Beautifies the Skin - Sweating cleans the body pores, which automatically leads to betterment of the skin. Sauna is highly beneficial in this case, not only for beautification of the skin but also for removing allergies. For example, common skin problems like acne, eczema, etc show commendable improvement after sauna sessions.

Recent studies have revealed that Saunas go a long way in cleansing the body from toxins. Toxins are poisonous substances produced within the human body that are capable of causing disease when introduced into the body tissues. A 10-20 minute sauna session increases the heart rate by 50-75%, an increased cardiac load equivalent to brisk walk. The heat generated also causes blood vessels in the skin to expand to accommodate increased blood flow and a considerable increase in sweating. During a sauna session, blood flow to the skin increases to as high as 50-70%, compared to the standard 5-10%. This is due to the blood vessels in the skin’s surface expanding to accommodate the increased blood flow, a process known as vasodilation. Sweating opens up the pores in the skin and thereby helps the body flush out impurities stored within. Enhanced sweating provides the body with a comprehensive cleansing power…about 30% of body wastes are eliminated through the skin while sweating. Research has shown that sweat is more effective than water when it comes to emulsification of fat located in the skin’s sebaceous glands, and at removing the sebum and bacteria stored in the fatty tissues. The high temperature even helps release toxins that are stored within the fatty tissues, allowing the body to eliminate them via perspiration or the intestinal tract.

Saunas have become popular in broad regions of the world, but the culture and etiquette varies hugely from place to place. Different people have varied perceptions about this tradition. Some consider it a long carried trend and a few remark that it is the latest fashion.

Saunas are considered to be in progress from Finland, where the roots of Saunas are so prominent that it is almost impossible to track down the century when the sauna was discovered in Finland. The reason for the flourish of Saunas is their ample range of uses. The sterile environment is so highly hygienic that one can even give birth to a baby in a sauna. Finnish Saunas are considered hotter than Swedish and Russian Saunas. It is considered to be an honor for a stranger to be invited for a Sauna by Finns.

Traditional Sauna day is Saturday and Sunday. Sunday Saunas are performed more for a spiritual reason. This may be considered strange by some people but few persons find mild sauna a comfortable place to meditate.

Savusauna refers to the original form of sauna, where in an enclosed room some water was thrown onto hot rocks and the room had a small fireplace and no chimney. The fireplace radiated plenty of heat even after the fire had died. The use of Savusauna also known as Smoke Saunas has been reduced with the advancement in the technology. Presently, the latest in trends are infrared saunas.

In infrared saunas, electric heaters are used to generate the radiations. Such infrared rays are beneficial for health. The rays penetrate the skin to improve perspiration. There are other heat sources available than electric heaters which are proven to be as beneficial as electric heaters. One such source is continuous fire, with a firebox and smokestack and plenty of stone is placed in a compartment above the firebox. The best part of continuous fire is that it doesn’t smell of smoke.

You can have a personal sauna of your own in your home and even in your backyard. There are endless innovative possibilities for building a sauna, depending upon your requirements.
